Make a Difference

Volunteering with BMHC Scouts is a great way to give back, develop new skills and be part of something meaningful.
You don’t need prior experience — just enthusiasm and a sense of fun!

Scouting is made up of many different types of volunteers

From the Princess of Wales or Chief Scout Bear Grylls, to teachers, postal workers, shop assistants, and business people –
there is no such thing as a typical volunteer. Some are members, some are supporters, and others are parents or young people
wanting to help achieve the aims of the Movement.

Adults in Scouting support the Movement in the following ways:

  • Working directly with young people as Leaders, Assistant Leaders, Section Assistants and parent helpers.
  • Supporting other adults as volunteer managers (Group Scout Leaders and Commissioners).
  • Managing the administrative side of Scouting as Chairs, Secretaries, Administrators and Treasurers.

Current volunteering opportunities we are recruiting for:

  • Squirrels Team Members / Leaders
  • Beavers Team Members / Leaders
  • Cubs Team Members / Leaders
  • Scouts Team Members / Leaders
  • Social Media Manager
  • Fundraising Manager

Volunteering opportunities are flexible

When someone talks to us about volunteering, we find a role that fits with their time and skills.
If that means an hour a month, we’ll make the most of it — designed to fit around your availability.

All our activities are run by volunteers who might join us because they want to:

  • Try something new
  • Make friends
  • Spend time with their children – or gain experience with young people
  • Do something good for their community and themselves
  • Keep their bodies and brains active and happy — whether that’s by scaling mountains, sharing skills or serving tea

All end up making a huge difference to young people’s lives — gifting them with skills for life,
and learning a whole lot about themselves along the way.

Why Volunteer?

  • Support young people to achieve their potential
  • Meet new friends and make lasting connections
  • Gain leadership, teamwork and event-management skills
  • Be part of a movement that changes lives
